Description
The Museo occupies the basement of the Sant’Eutizio’s Abbey, founded by Santo Spes in the 5 th Century. The Abbey still preserves the original walls of the ancient building, which dates back to the 6th century.
The museum collects local works of art (church ornaments, frescoes, paintings on canvas or on wood by the Italian painter Pomarancio, polychrome wood carvings and sculptures, glazed terracotta, precious silver works and ancient pieces of embroidery).
The abbey houses the archaeological collection “Don Ansano Fabbi”, which consists of remarkable finds which date back from the 9 th to the 1 st century B. C. and the “Scuola Chirurgica Preciana”, a collection of medical technology products for surgery, which bears witness of the ancient surgical school of Preci, one of the most famous in Europe during the 17 th century.
